PM Shahbaz Sharif directs to ensure fullproof security for Imran Khan

Why Imran Khan's security must be at the top of the list

PM Imran Khan deserves to be protected by the best and the brightest Pakistan has to offer, which means making sure his security detail matches his popularity level. As he becomes more of a household name, it’s becoming clear that his security detail just isn’t up to par with the threat level faced by politicians in Pakistan every day. In order to prevent an attack on Imran Khan from being successful, he should consider one of these five ways to ensure foolproof security for Imran Khan at all times.

What makes his life vulnerable?

Before Imran Khan can even start to address Pakistan’s myriad problems, he will have to focus on ensuring his own personal safety. Although Sharif did not specify which threats may come his way, in 2013 he was named as a target by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. In light of these claims, it is vital that PTI, or whichever party comes to power in Pakistan next month, ensures that Imran Khan has protection at all times.

What security measures are needed?

Security for Imran Khan needs to be seriously beefed up. The PTI is being targeted by violent extremists. And considering that Imran is likely to become prime minister, he will need serious protection against these threats. Let’s make sure that a foolproof plan is in place right now to make sure no harm comes his way!

What more can we do?

Imran’s visit to Lahore is a historic moment for Pakistan. It’s going to take time for everything to shake out and for us to see exactly what these changes are going to look like, but one thing we can do right now is make sure that Imran’s safety is guaranteed. He has always been targeted by those who oppose his political position and want him gone; unfortunately, that means he was never given full protection while he was leading PTI from exile in England.

How does he travel?

Imran Khan will travel around Pakistan in a bulletproof car, with a police escort. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, he’ll fly in a helicopter that can land anywhere. With increased threat levels and possible attacks, extra care will have to be taken to make sure Imran’s journey is safe and secure. A tactical command centre will be established to help keep track of his movements and locations.

Is there anything else to consider?

All potential threats need to be considered and taken seriously. Imran Khan may seem like a peaceful man, but he is also a very high-profile figure in Pakistan. The PTI’s popularity has grown quickly since its foundation and will likely continue to do so. With more people supporting it and an upcoming election, it’s important that they are kept safe. Security should not just focus on Imran himself, but also on those that surround him as well. Anything less would just be foolish.
